The Pirates have claimed reliever Chris Leroux from the Marlins. Leroux, 26, is tall and has a good fastball, so he’s the sort of pitcher the Bucs tend to like. He also tends to post good strikeout and walk numbers, so even though he’s struggled some in both the majors and in Class AAA this season, there’s a chance he’ll improve. He’s definitely a better use of a roster spot than Brian Bass, who the Pirates designated for assignment to take his place. Bass is pretty much the definition of a replacement-level pitcher.
