WR Shawney Kersey May Be On His Way Out At Penn State

Bob Flounders reports that talented wide receiver Shawney Kersey may be leaving the program, unhappy with the amount of playing time he is getting.

Two sources close to the program said redshirt freshman Shawney Kersey, upset over a lack of playing time, did not show up for practice Monday. One source told The Patriot-News that Kersey did not practice today, either.

The 6-1, 197-pound Kersey is one of the fastest Lions, and he was the star of the Blue-White game in April, catching a pair of touchdown passes from true freshman quarterback Paul Jones.

While there are players listed above him on the depth chart, Kersey is still young and will be one of the more promising options at the position in years to come. Penn State is abnormally deep at wide receiver at the moment, so the transfer of Kersey would not be a serious blow to the program. However, fans hate to see talented players leave the program, especially young players who have a promising career in front of them.

Through three games in 2010, Kersey has no catches and one rush for 24 yards.
