Darren Dreger on Twitter broke the story and multiple sources have confirmed that the Penguins have signed forward Mike Comrie to a one year $500,000 contract for the 2010-11 season.
↵Comrie famously married teen icon Hilary Duff earlier this summer, and has played for five teams in the past four seasons.
↵For Pittsburgh, this is a deal that adds some badly needed skill to the lineup. Due to a bout with mono, Comrie only played in 43 games last season for a woeful Edmonton team, but still put up 21 points (including 13 goals). Back in 2005-06, Comrie put up 60 points (30g, 30a) for the Phoenix Coyotes and the hope is that he can bring some of that skill and scoring touch to Pittsburgh.
↵For a league-minimum signing, the Pens have potentially added a skill player who can help them a lot. As always with free agent signings, Comrie has his warts: he's small and has been prone to injuries and at age 30 his peak years may already be behind him. But the hope always remains that playing with Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin may boost performance and production to help the team.
↵If nothing else, the new CONSOL Energy Center will be buzzing with Duff sightings throughout the year.
