Steelers Center Justin Hartwig Exploring Trade Options

New, 1 comment

According to NFL.com, the Pittsburgh Steelers have given 9-year veteran center Justin Hartwig permission to seek a trade. The jaw-dropping preseason performance of rookie Maurkice Pouncey has made Hartwig expendable, and this bit of news obviously implies that Hartwig was never really a factor in the position battle for starting right guard, either.

It's in the interest of both the Steelers and Hartwig, 31, to hunt for potential trade suitors. The veteran fought his way into the starting lineup in 2008, beating out Sean Mahan, and would obviously prefer not to ride the bench if he can start elsewhere. And the team might as well see if they can squeeze some value out of Hartwig, since they're set to roll with Pouncey.
