The Pirates have recalled pitcher Joe Martinez.
Martinez was acquired along with John Bowker for Javier Lopez at the trading deadline. He’s a bit of a soft-tosser who’s had some success in the minors but is very unlikely to be an impact player in the majors.
Martinez will take Brian Burres’ spot in the bullpen, as Burres moves to the rotation to take over for Jeff Karstens, who will skip his start tomorrow due to shoulder fatigue
