College Basketball Rankings: Pitt At No. 5, West Virginia Enters Top 25

The Panthers still rank fifth in the AP college basketball rankings. The Panthers haven't budged in weeks despite continuing to win, but that will change in the coming week. They face No. 3 Syracuse tonight, and a win will surely bump Pitt up to No. 3 at least. Also, there's now uncertainty at the top, since Duke, which had been No. 1 for weeks, lost to Florida State this week and dropped to No. 4. Ohio State currently ranks first, but Kansas, Syracuse and Duke all received first-place votes, and Pitt even received one. The Panthers will probably have to wait for Ohio State and probably also Kansas to lose before the Panthers can claim the top spot, if they ever do. Here are the top ten:

1. Ohio State

2. Kansas

3. Syracuse

4. Duke

5. Pitt

6. San Diego State

7. Villanova

8. UConn

9. BYU

10. Texas

Also, after a big win this weekend over Purdue, the West Virginia Mountaineers enter the poll at No. 21. The Mountaineers face a very tough schedule in the coming weeks, with games coming up against Louisville, Pitt, Villanova, Syracuse, UConn, and Notre Dame, but so far they've faced two ranked teams and beaten them both.
