In a game that featured multiple changes of quarterback for the Pitt Panthers, Pitt fall to the Utah Utes 26-14. The Panthers jumped out to an early 14-3 lead after scoring on 98-yard kick return for a touchdown and blocking a Utah punt for a touchdown in the first quarter. After that, Pitt struggled to move the football at all. Tino Sunseri and Trey Anderson ended the day a combined nine of 29 for 40 yards and two interceptions, including a pick-six by Anderson late in the fourth quarter that essentially sealed the game.
Utah, on the other hand, just played sound defense and didn't panic at their early special teams blunders that put them in a hold. Utah pounded the football and rode running back John White IV to the tune of 174 rushing yards on 35 carries. Quarterback Jon Hayes wasn't asked to do much, ending the day with 127 passing yards and a touchdown. Utah's kicker Coleman Peterson was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals to help the Utes chip away at the early Pitt lead.
