Pitt is losing to Rutgers 20-3 late in the third quarter, and West Virginia trounced Connecticut 43-16 earlier on Saturday. There are only two other games involving Big East teams on Saturday. One is Syracuse vs. Tulane, which begins at 8:00 PM.
The other was Louisville vs. North Carolina. Louisville lost, 14-7, to fall to 2-3. The two teams were scoreless at halftime, but Geovani Bernard had a three-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Bryn Renner threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Dwight Jones early in the fourth quarter to give the Tar Heels a 14-0 lead. Teddy Bridgewater threw a touchdown pass to Dominique Brown with 42 seconds remaining to cut down the lead.
Every team in the Big East has at least one loss. West Virginia is in very good shape, with a 1-0 record in the conference after its defeat of UConn and with South Florida already losing to Pitt. Most of the conference schedule has yet to be played, obviously, and Pitt and other schools are still very much in it – although a loss to Rutgers will be tough, if in fact that’s what happens to the Panthers today.
