We tend not to focus on Duquesne sports here because we don't have a Duquesne specialists - sorry about that, Dukes fans. But when a team runs off 11 straight wins, it gets our attention. Duquesne did just that on Thursday by beating George Washington, 84-59. Bill Clark had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and B.J. Monteiro added 19 points and seven boards.
↵Duquesne's student section was chanting "AP Poll! AP Poll!" at the game. Even though the Dukes have started receiving votes in the poll, that might be a stretch for now, since the Dukes took their lumps in a pretty tough out-of-conference schedule that included losses to Pitt, WVU, Penn State, Robert Morris, and George Mason. But the Dukes have one win against a ranked team (Temple), and they're now 8-0 in conference play. They'll take on St. Bonaventure before hosting Xavier next weekend in a matchup of the Atlantic 10's top two teams. If they can knock off Xavier, then they'll probably have enough quality wins to enter the poll. It's too early to start printing the NCAA tournament tickets, but Duquesne certainly bears watching over the next couple weeks.
