Duquesne’s late-season collapse continued Saturday as the No. 4-seeded Dukes were upset by a weak St. Joseph’s team in overtime, 93-90. Carl Jones had 29 points for the Hawks, while Bill Clark and Damian Saunders had 21 apiece for Duquesne.
The Dukes had limped their way into a first-round bye in the Atlantic 10 Tournament after losing six of their final eight regular-season games, but this one takes the cake. The Dukes had won 11 games in a row in the middle of the season, but those days are long gone. The Dukes’ record now stands at 18-12.
In other Atlantic 10 conference results, Dayton upset top-seeded Xavier, 68-67, and will face St. Joseph’s at 1:00 today in an unlikely matchup of a No. 9 seed and a No. 12 seed. No. 2 seed Temple blew out LaSalle, 96-76. And Richmond beat Rhode Island, 55-45. Richmond will play Temple today at 3:30.
