Penguins Vs. Flyers: Pens Keep Division Race Alive But Lose Dustin Jeffrey In 2-1 Shootout Victory

The Penguins gained a point on the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday night by beating Philly in a shootout, 2-1. With the win, the Pens added some intrigue to the race for first place in the Atlantic Division. They now have 94 points to Philadelphia's 98, and the two teams will meet again on Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

Mike Richards scored the first goal of the game for the Flyers late in the first period, but the Pens tied the game in the second when Chris Kunitz centered a pass to Tyler Kennedy on the power play.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped three of the Flyers' four shots in the shootout period and finished the game with 19 saves. Alex Kovalev scored in the shootout period for the Pens, but it was Kunitz' goal that was decisive.

The Penguins' victory may have been a pricy one, however, because Dustin Jeffrey left the game with an apparent leg injury. There is no news yet on the seriousness of Jeffrey's injury.
