Despite a pair of homers by Andrew McCutchen, the Pirates lost 10-3 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a blowout Tuesday night at PNC Park.
McCutchen hit solo home runs in the sixth and eighth innings, but that wasn't nearly enough to keep up with the Dodgers. The game was a scoreless pitchers' duel between Ted Lilly and Kevin Correia through five innings, but after that, the floodgates opened. The Dodgers scored four runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Andre Ethier and a three-run homer by Matt Kemp, then tacked on another run in the seventh.
Mike Crotta came on to pitch the eighth and allowed a series of base hits to Ethier, Kemp and Juan Uribe, then a walk to James Loney. The struggling Chris Resop came on and threw fuel on the fire, allowing runs to score on bases-loaded walks to Jerry Sands and reliever (!) Matt Guerrier.
