Jair Jurrjens defeated Charlie Morton in a pitcher's duel as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday at PNC Park, 2-0.
Brooks Conrad hit a sacrifice fly in the second to knock in Alex Gonzalez, and in the third, Martin Prado hit a double down the third-base line to score Jordan Schafer. That was all the scoring the Braves needed. The Pirates missed a chance in the sixth, after Jose Tabata and Garrett Jones each reached base to lead off the inning. Neil Walker then popped out to second, and Lyle Overbay grounded into an inning-ending double play.
Morton struck out four and walked three in seven innings, while racking up 13 grounders with only four fly balls. Evan Meek struck out the side in the ninth, an encouraging sign that's he's healthy and ready to pitch.
Jurrjens pitched 7.2 innings and struck out four while allowing one walk and six hits.
The finale of the two-game series will take place Wednesday at 12:35 PM.
