Pirates Vs. Padres: Ryan Doumit Takes Advantage Of Padre Mistakes, Leads Bucs To 7-4 Victory

The Bucs jumped out to a huge early lead and never looked back against the San Diego Padres Wednesday at PETCO Park, eventually winning 7-4.

The Pirates scored a run in the second on two walks, a steal and an RBI groundout by Brandon Wood, but they really did damage in the third. Or, rather, the Padres did it to themselves - after a single by Andrew McCutchen, errors by catcher Nick Hundley and third baseman Chase Headley allowed two more runners to reach base. Neil Walker brought home two with an RBI single, and after a walk by Steve Pearce, Ryan Doumit brought everyone home with a grand slam.

Kevin Correia cruised through six innings for the Bucs, who mostly had an easy time after the third inning. Jose Veras pitched the ninth and allowed solo homers by Brad Hawpe and Eric Patterson, but other than that, the Pirates had little trouble. It's nice when it's the other team's infield errors helping the Pirates, instead of the other way around.
