Penguins Bring BIll Guerin Back As Player Development Coach

Earlier today, the Penguins announced that BIll Guerin would be returning to the team as a player development coach.

In his new role, Guerin, 40, will be responsible for working with young prospects throughout the Penguins’ organization – assisting in the development of players in the minor leagues as well as junior and college hockey.

When the Penguins brought him in, Guerin was the most senior player on a young roster by a pretty wide margin. But he was able to not only fit in with the team pretty quickly, but provide a certain battle-tested type of leadership that the Penguins lacked.

Since his recent retirement, the Penguins maintained close ties with Guerin. That he has been added to the staff in some capacity is not surprising.

This should prove to be a solid hire. Few men can boast the resume that Guerin does and Ray Shero has experienced first-hand what he can provide to young players.
