Earlier today, the Penguins announced that BIll Guerin would be returning to the team as a player development coach.
↵↵↵In his new role, Guerin, 40, will be responsible for working with young prospects throughout the Penguins’ organization – assisting in the development of players in the minor leagues as well as junior and college hockey.
↵
When the Penguins brought him in, Guerin was the most senior player on a young roster by a pretty wide margin. But he was able to not only fit in with the team pretty quickly, but provide a certain battle-tested type of leadership that the Penguins lacked.
↵Since his recent retirement, the Penguins maintained close ties with Guerin. That he has been added to the staff in some capacity is not surprising.
↵This should prove to be a solid hire. Few men can boast the resume that Guerin does and Ray Shero has experienced first-hand what he can provide to young players.
