Cardinals Vs. Pirates: Lance Berkman, Jaime Garcia Blow Away Bucs

The Pirates lost their third straight game on Saturday in a 9-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park.

Kevin Correia allowed seven runs in 4.2 innings, including home runs to Lance Berkman and Yadier Molina. Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia, meanwhile, breezed through 7.1 innings, striking out five and walking none.

The Cardinals scored two runs in the second RBI singles by Molina and Daniel Descalso. The Pirates scored in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Brandon Wood (who for some reason was starting at first base), but that's all the Pirates could manage. Albert Pujols had an RBI single in the fifth, followed by Berkman's three-run jack and the Molina homer.

The Pirates did get three good innings of relief from Tony Watson, thus saving the bullpen, at least to a degree, for the Pirates' Sunday series finale. Jose Veras, however, failed to get out of the ninth, allowing three walks and two runs.
