The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed veteran forward Jason Williams to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced today. The deal is worth $600,000 at the NHL level.
↵Williams, 30, spent parts of last season with the Dallas Stars and the AHL’s Connecticut Whale, posting very modest numbers in the process.
↵Williams appeared to be a player on the rise after the 2005-06 season, when he put up 58 points in 80 games for the Detroit Red Wings.
↵Since then, he has battled through inconsistency and a number of injuries, including a fractured fibula in 2009, limiting his playing time and production.
↵The move is a safe and simple one, giving the Penguins additional experience and depth at both the NHL and AHL levels.
