Chris Conner Signs With Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have signed former Penguins forward Chris Conner to a one-year deal. Conner wasn't expected to be a priority for the Pens this offseason, since they had a ton of forwards to sign. The Pens had a great record when Conner was playing, but I doubt that means anything.

He's a really good grinder ... good speed, excellent at working down low doesn't have great hands or skill, won't put up points, but works really hard and doesn't take any shifts off.

The Penguins were 39-14-7 for 85 points (.708) with Chris Conner in the lineup. Without him, they were 10-11-1 for 21 points (.477).

It wasn't immediately clear how much money Conner would be making.

The Penguins have kept Tyler Kennedy and Pascal Dupuis this offseason, along with Craig Adams and Arron Asham. Their only relatively major addition has been Steve Sullivan. They've lost Max Talbot, Mike Rupp, and Alex Kovalev in addition to Conner.
