With one quarter of the Steelers’ first preseason game of 2011 in the books, Pittsburgh has been outperformed so far by the Washington Redskins.
Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich were both shaky in their first drives with the Steelers, with both missing deep throws to open receivers.
The Redskins, meanwhile, marched down the field in their first drive, and the Steelers were saved only by a badly shanked field goal by Shayne Graham. Rex Grossman is currently 8-for-10 with 76 yards passing.
The score remains tied at zero, but the Redskins currently have 119 total yards and the Steelers only 32. I can’t imagine the Steelers are particularly happy on either side of the ball.
… Not that any of this really matters too much right now. The more important part of the game will come later, when we start to see players who are battling for roster spots.
