Top Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor should miss “a couple of weeks” after breaking his thumb against the Redskins on Saturday, Mike Tomlin says.
Coach Mike Tomlin said Taylor “could be out for a couple of weeks or so.” The coach said he’s not sure whether the thumb will require surgery.
Taylor was injured on the game’s second play and left later during the Redskins opening drive.
This doesn’t sound like any big deal, honestly – Taylor probably wasn’t going to play a ton in the next couple of preseason games anyway. By the way, I was amused by this little detail from the Beaver County Times:
Taylor broke his left thumb Friday night in a 16-7 preseason loss to the Washington Redskins. He was injured in the first quarter but couldn’t remember exactly how he broke his thumb.
I suppose it isn’t terribly surprising that Taylor can’t remember how he did that, but it still speaks to how tough these guys are.
