Kevin Correia is the latest Pirates starting pitcher to hit the DL, Jenifer Langosch reports – he has a strained oblique.
Correia had been scheduled to pitch Wednesday; it’s not yet clear who will start in his place. It can’t be Brad Lincoln, who’s pitching Monday night, or Ross Ohlendorf, who’s pitching Tuesday. Jeff Locke, who last pitched for Indianapolis Saturday, is probably also out, as is Brian Burres, who pitched Monday night. Justin Wilson has been pitching out of the bullpen. It looks like the choices, unless I’m forgetting someone, are Garrett Olson, Kyle McPherson, Aaron Thompson, or someone from outside the organization. McPherson would be a fun choice, although an unlikely one.
Correia had been pitching very badly, and it will be hard to find someone worse than he’s been recently, although the circumstances have certainly made it as easy as possible for the Pirates to do so.
