Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Moving to Brooklyn in 2013

The Atlantic 10 announced today that the conference will begin playing its men's basketball tournament at the state-of-the-art Barclays Center in Brooklyn beginning in 2013.

The A-10 is currently in the final year of an agreement with Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, where the tournament has been played since 2007.

The arena was picked over other candidates including University of Dayton Arena and CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

While the site will most likely not help draw a huge amount of fans to the event (Atlantic City struggled to draw fans from non-Philadelphia schools), the conference will benefit from the exposure of playing in a new arena in the largest market in the US. By looking at the arena's website, it appears as if it will be one of the best facilities in the country.

There is a catch though. The place is so nice that the Big East has taken an interest of potentially playing there once their contract with Madison Square Garden expires in 2016. The Atlantic Coast Conference has also taken an interest to playing in New York City since the additions of Syracuse and Pitt. It will be interesting to see how long the A10 will be able to stake a claim in Brooklyn.
