2012 NHL All-Star Draft: Team Chara Selects Evgeni Malkin With Third Pick, Team Alfredsson Takes Kris Letang With Fifth Pick

It didn't take long for Evgeni Malkin to come off the board at the NHL's All Star Game fantasy draft. Malkin, who's scored 17 goals in 21 games, was the third selection by captain Zdeno Chara and co-captain Joffrey Lupul. Chara selected Pavel Datsyuk with the first overall pick, and then went with his teammate and goaltender Tim Thomas with their second pick.

After Daniel Alfredsson's team took Erik Karlsson and Jason Spezza, it was time for Malkin to come off the board. Geno is the hottest player on the planet right now, so it's no surprise he went so high among the best players in the world. Some even thought it was too low, with Alfreddson clearly favoring his Ottawa teammates.

Kris Letang was taken by Team Alfreddson just four picks later, with their fifth pick and the tenth overall. Letang was named an All-Star after sitting out more than a month with a concussion and broken nose. With the Pens playing their best hockey of the season, it was great to see two of them go in the top ten of the draft.
