Former Penn State wrestler Phil Davis will face off against Rashad Evans at UFC On Fox 2 on Saturday night as the main event on the card. Coverage on FOX begins at 8:00 PM. Davis was a four-time All-American wrestler at Penn State and won the NCAA Championship at 197 pounds in 2008. After graduation, he made the transition to Mixed Martial Arts and worked his way up the rankings. Tonight will be his first event since a knee injury sidelined him in 2011.
↵SB Nation's MMA blog Bloody Elbow has some staff predictions on its site. Six of the nine staff members pick Evans to win while three pick Phil Davis. T.P. Grant had this to say about Davis' chances.
↵↵↵If this fight goes more than a few minutes, it is going to come down to who is the better wrestler, and the answer is Phil Davis. Rashad is the more powerful striker, but how much of an advantage he will enjoy is unknown as Davis has shown strides on his feet. In the clinch and on the mat I think Davis will enjoy an advantage that will only increase as the fight wears on. Rashad has shown that prolonged grappling will drain his gas tank and Rashad has never been impressive off his back. Davis will survive on the feet, drag Rashad onto the ground, and then finish him in the later rounds. Phil Davis by TKO, Round 4.
