Baylor vs. WVU: Geno Smith wins Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

The only real competition for Geno Smith for Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week were the West Virginia Mountaineers' wide receivers, but Smith came away with the honor after his preposterous outing against Baylor.

Smith's numbers make video game performances pale in comparison: the senior threw eight touchdowns against only six incompletions, for 656 yards on 51 attempts in the 70-63 victory. He continued his interception-free streak and furthered himself as an early front-runner for the Heisman trophy. In essence, there was no competition for the weekly honor, as Smith also won the Walter Camp National Player of the Week award.

Smith's eight touchdowns tied a Big 12 record. He spread the ball around, with Stedman Bailey reeling in five touchdowns and 303 yards, Tavon Austin 215 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while J.D. Woods rounded out the trio of 100-yard receivers with 13 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Winning defensive player of the week was Texas Tech's Cornelius Douglas, who had two interceptions, including one for a touchdown, while D.J. Monroe was the conference's special teams player for his 100-yard kick return.
