The Pittsburgh Penguins American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, will begin the 2012 regular season on Saturday night when they travel to Binghamton to challenge the Senators.
The team will have a week off after that before traveling to Springfield to challenge the Falcons. They will then quickly return to Wilkes-Barre for their home opener that Saturday against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and then finish out the weekend with another home game against the Syracuse Crunch on Sunday afternoon.
With the NHL lockout closing in on its dubious one-month anniversary, the American Hockey League will act as one of the few outlets for professional ice hockey in North America. Considering the Penguins won't be in action, prospect Brian Dumoulin will have an opportunity to shine with the baby Penguins.
Here is a recap of the opening of their schedule:
Saturday, Oct. 13: at Binghamton
Friday, Oct. 19: at Springfield
Saturday, Oct. 20: vs. Bridgeport
Sunday, Oct. 21: vs. Scranton
