The Pirates will wear retro throwbacks for Sunday home games, the team announced Friday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are kickin' it old school for their Sunday alternates this year. The Pirates announced Friday that the team will be sporting jerseys that are updates of the versions the Pirates wore starting in 1970 and during the 1971 World Series run.

The biggest change in the jersey will come in the cap, which will be the Pirates' mustard yellow with a black brim. The rest of the changes are not too different than what the Pirates wear now, but have more stripes on the sleeves. Here's a photo of Andrew McCutchen rocking the look at Pirates Fan Fest.

Here's the official press release from the team:

The Pittsburgh Pirates today unveiled a new alternate home uniform that is an update of a classic Pirates uniform that was first introduced in 1970 and worn by the 1971 World Series Championship Pirates team.

The uniform, which will be worn on Sunday home games throughout the 2013 season, includes a new mustard gold cap and a pullover style jersey just as it was in the early 1970's. The new updated jersey will be made of "Cool Base" fabric for improved breathability and increased range of motion.

The front of the jersey will feature black "Pirates" lettering outlined in mustard gold on the chest, as well as the player's number below the lettering on the left hand side of the jersey. The players' names have been added to the back of the jerseys to go along with their number, as opposed to the 1970 jerseys that did not feature the names. Black, white and mustard gold piping will be featured on the jersey's collar and sleeves, as well as on the waistband of the pants.

The Pirates also introduced, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, a new Pirates Batting Practice Cap. The cap is black with a gold bill and the Pirates "P" on the front in gold. The new cap, which was developed by New Era, is lighter in weight and more breathable with a structured high crown cap.

The remainder of the Pirates uniform line-up (home white, road gray and black alternate) will remain unchanged for the 2013 season.

The complete lineup of Pirates jerseys and caps will be on display and available for purchase at PirateFest throughout the weekend, as well as on pirates.com and the Pirates Majestic Clubhouse Store at PNC Park.
