2012 bowl schedule: Pitt heads to BBVA Compass Bowl again, will face Ole Miss

It will be the Panthers' third straight appearance in Birmingham for the postseason.

US PRESSWIRE

The Pittsburgh Panthers needed a win in their final game of the year to become bowl eligible. They went into Tampa to face the South Florida Bulls and got just that, winning 27-3 and notching their all-important sixth of the year to become eligible for the postseason.

It wasn't an easy season for the Panthers or their fans with all their wins and losses coming in bunches of two. But at least they'll be going somewhere familiar after the new year for their postseason game. The Panthers are heading to Birmingham, Ala. for the BBVA Compass Bowl to face the Ole Miss Rebels.

Ole Miss also finished the season with an identical 6-6 record and won their final game of the season to become bowl eligible as well. The Rebels have never appeared in the BBVA Compass Bowl.

The Panthers will be going to Birmingham for the third straight postseason. They fell to the SMU Mustangs last season 28-6 after beating the Kentucky Wildcats 27-10 in the 2011 edition of the game.
