Pitt vs. Kennesaw State: Panthers wrap up non-conference schedule with 1-10 Owls

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt wraps up its non-conference schedule when they take on the 1-10 Kennesaw State Owls on Sunday afternoon.

For fans, the game will end a disappointing run of opponents viewed largely as too easy. The Panthers did face No. 2 ranked Michigan, but other than that the schedule has been mostly full of cupcakes. And Sunday's game isn't any different.

The Kennesaw State Owls are 1-10 on the season and their sole win was a two-point nailbiter against South Carolina State. The team has also not only had their share of losses, but blowouts. Six of their ten games have resulted in defeats by more than ten points.

A bright spot for the Owls continues to be guard Markeith Cummings. Cummings has been one of the school's all-time great players, averaging approximately 17 points per game. Heading into this year, he ranked as the program's third leading scorer of all time. Scoring for Cummings has always been natural, but this year he's shooting better than he ever has in his career (making nearly 50% of his shots). He'll be a tough assignment for whoever guards him.

For Pitt, it's about keeping Steven Adams hot. Adams has had a solid four-game stretch and in his last game against Delaware, had ten points, eight rebounds, and four blocks. The freshman has averaged ten points and ten rebounds over that span and is playing better.

After Sunday's contest, things get instantly more difficult for the Panthers. They'll take on No. 11 Cincinnati on New Year's Eve and a week later will face No. 15 Georgetown.
