Penguins Vs. Sabres Score Update: Buffalo Jumps Out To 2-0 Lead After First Period

The Pittsburgh Pengins trail the Buffalo Sabres 2-0 after twenty minutes in upstate New York. It didn't take long for the Sabres to put one past Brent Johnson on Saturday afternoon. Off a sloppy play in the Pens own zone, the Sabres took a 1-0 lead just 52 seconds into the game. Brooks Orpik put the puck right in front of the goal where it deflected directly onto the stick of All-Star Jason Pominvllle. The Sabres' captain poked it past Johnson for the quick 1-0 lead.

The Sabres made it a two-goal lead on a soft Derek Roy backhand that went over the blocker side of Johnson. Just like that, less than five minutes into this Sunday national TV showcase, the Pens trailed 2-0. Roy came down the left wing and simply flipped a backhand towards the net with Orpik trying to catch up and draped on his right side.

On the offensive end, the Pens had only two shots-on-goal through the first ten minutes, presenting little challenge for Ryan Miller. Shortly after the mid way point of the period, Pittsburgh stepped up the offensive pressure but Miller was there to make a couple impressive saves, including one fabulous glove stop on a rocket from Paul Martin.
