Super Bowl Ads 2012: Downy Adds Amy Sedaris To Mean Joe Greene Commercial

Remember the Mean Joe Greene Coke Commercial from 1980? How could you not? It's one of the most iconic commercials ever made.

This year, Downy brings in Amy Sedaris of all people to play the role of the boy who offers Mean Joe Greene some Downy Unstoppables. It's basically the same ad, except for a slightly different ending ... and a whole lot more funky Amy Sedaris faces.

The ad is a winner because it covers every base. It's got the nostalgia factor, reenacting one of the most famous football commercials of all time. Sedaris pulls in "the kids" or whatever demographic is supposed to be fans of Sedaris. It obviously wins over the Steelers fans. And there's a body function joke, the core of any good Super Bowl commercial. If they could have somehow worked in a fart or a guy getting kicked in the groin, it might have been an all-time great.
