Many prognosticators speculated that the Super Bowl this year could break the ratings from last year's game and in turn become the most watch television program in History. In the early returns, it looks like that may not have happened. But they did come close.
Small correx on the overnights. I'm now being told that it's a 47.8 (not 47.9), which is down a tenth of a ratings point from last year.

The same people are going to be watching the Super Bowl every year, so those ratings aren't going to change a tremendous amount, but there is one event every year that even non-football fans tune into, and it turns out the halftime show may have gotten bigger rankings than the game itself.
Madonna is more popular than the NFL. Source says the halftime show drew a 48.3 overnight, which is higher than the game's 47.8.

That makes sense, because the halftime show gets everyone who tuned in for the game plus the aging spinsters who tune in just for Madonna. But I still don't have to like it.
