2012 Super Bowl TV Ratings: Giants, Patriots Help Set Viewship Record

The overall TV ratings for the 2012 Super Bowl may not have beaten last year's or halftime-show performer Madonna, but the exciting contest between the New York Giants and New England Patriots did set a new viewership record with 111.3 million average viewers.

Reported earlier Monday, the Super Bowl received a overnight rating of 47.8 rating, which was down a tenth of last year's (47.9).

The Giants ended up beating the Patriots, 21-17, to claim their second Super Bowl title in five seasons and fourth overall. Also for the second time in five years, the Giants beat the Patriots with the other final score being 17-14.
