Penguins Defenseman Kris Letang Has Concussion-Like Symptoms

Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review tweeted today that Penguins’ defenseman Kris Letang has shown concussion-like symptoms as a result of a hit he took from Dallas Stars winger Eric Nystrom in the Penguins’ 4-3 victory last night.

It was also announced today that Nystrom would not be suspended by the NHL for the hit.

↵

Letang also missed 21 games earlier in the season after he suffered a concussion on a hit from Max Pacioretty of the Montreal Canadiens.

↵

Despite missing such an extended period of time, Letang played in the NHL all-star game for the second consecutive season, and has put up 31 points in 40 games this campaign.

↵

Matt Niskanen, who saw his ice time effectively neutered upon Letang’s return, will likely be leaned upon on to fill the sudden void on the power play.

↵

Make no mistake, if the Penguins truly entertain notions of reaching the Stanley Cup finals, Letang is an incredibly vital piece of the team’s puzzle.
