After one half in Norfolk, Virginia, the No. 1 seed Stanford Cardinal lead No. 8 seed West Virginia by 17 points. The Cardinal's Amber Orrange, a freshman, has had her way against WVU on the offensive end to lead all scorers with 12 points. Orrange is coming off an 11-assist game over Hampton, and while she may only be a freshman, she completely set the tone and facilitated the offense for Tara VanDerveer's club.
If West Virginia was to have any shot against the heavily favored Cardinal, they had to shoot the lights out from behind the arc. Unfortunately for Mountaineer fans, WVU is just one of seven from three-point range while Stanford is shooting nearly 54 percent from the floor. Asya Bussie was the only player to get some offensive rhythm against VanDerveer's stifling defense, scoring a team-high six points while also grabbing four boards The Mountaineers had it within five with about ten minutes to go in the fist, but the No. 1 seed rattled off an 18-0 run to quickly take control of the game. West Virginia will have to get some stops and hit some outside shots if they want to have any chance of pulling off a shocking upset in the final 20 minutes.
