Ron Everhart Firing: Former Players Sound Off

The news that Duquesne University fired head basketball coach Ron Everhart shocked many including some of his former players.

Gary Tucker, who played under Everhart at Duquesne for the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons and has played professionally overseas, had this to say about the firing on Facebook.

Philip Fayne, who played the same years as Tucker before his career ended due to a medical condition, left this comment under the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's article reporting the firing.

"Having been a part of the program during the Everhart Era I can say through first hand experience that Coach took heat for many things beyond his control while getting a fraction of the respect deserved for what he was able to achieve...As with any building strategy, the best way to build is to reduce your losses, and for a guy without a losing season in 5 years for a program with 20 in 21 years prior, this is unjust."

It is understandable how the players are feeling, as both Fayne and Tucker were a part of the 2007-2008 squad that brought Duquesne basketball their first winning season since 1994-1995.
