Coquese Washington Will Remain At Penn State

Penn State women's basketball coach Coquese Washington will stay in Happy Valley, reaffirming her commitment to PSU at a press conference on Monday afternoon. Washington interviewed for the open Michigan position, but she said PSU was her home and that her "heart was at Penn State." She indicated it was the perfect place. Via Mark Brennan of FightOnState.com:

"This is no slight to Michigan or any other program," Washington said. "But it reinforced for me that Penn State is the perfect place for me ... because of the values and goals and leadership. ... It's a wonderful marriage for me."

Washington and Penn State Athletic Director Dave Joyner did not reveal whether her contract had been extended. She's currently under contract until 2014. The PSU women's team is coming off a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2012 Women's NCAA Tournament, with star guard Maggie Lucas returning and now Washington continuing in charge.

We'll have more on this press conference as soon as we know what exactly it is being organized to announce. For more on this story and all things related to the Penn State Nittany Lions, please head over Black Shoe Diaries.
