VCU Joining Atlantic 10 In 2013, Per Report

VCU is leaving the Colonial Athletic Association for the tournament-rich Atlantic 10, according to report from CBS Sports. The VCU Rams join the Butler Bulldogs as the newest members of the conference.

The A10 has received multiple bids to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last five years. The CAA has had just four at-large bids to the tournament since 2000, which proved to be deciding factors for VCU and Butler. Butler has made two Final Four appearances, in 2010 and 2011, and VCU made the Final Four in 2011.

The two additions offset the loss of Temple and Charlotte. Temple went to the Big East and Charlotte joined Conference USA.

The Duquesne Dukes finished the 2011-2012 season with a 16-15 record, earning the ninth seed in the A10 tournament. They lost in the first round to Massachusetts.
