Butler Joins Duquesne In Atlantic 10

The Butler Bulldogs have joined the Atlantic 10 in what appears to be a coup for the conference, and Duquesne can look forward to having Butler on its schedule in the coming years. Atlantic 10 commissioner Bernadette McGlade:

"Welcoming Butler University as the newest member of the Atlantic 10 Conference is an honor and privilege. Institutionally, they are a perfect fit for the league and bring a tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, integrity and personnel. As a conference driven by national prominence in men’s basketball, Butler further strengthens our league. Complementing their success in men’s basketball is a broad-based sports program that will compete well in the A-10."

Butler, of course, upset Pitt en route to the NCAA Tournament championship game in 2011. It also advanced to the championship game in 2010. The Bulldogs also played in the tournament in 2007 through 2009. Butler lost to Pitt in the College Basketball Invitational in 2012.

Butler will begin Atlantic 10 play in 2013-14, which is also when Temple will depart for the Big East.
