Pirates Vs. Tigers Recap: Max Scherzer Dominates Pittsburgh As Detroit Takes Series Finale, 4-3

The Pittsburgh Pirates' nightmare weekend in Detroit continued on Sunday, as Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer struck out a career-high 15 batters in just seven innings in Detroit's 4-3 victory.

While the Pirates hardly made contact on Scherzer, they did make the best of the few mistakes he made, as Rod Barajas and Neil Walker hit home runs in the fifth and sixth innings respectively.

Scherzer ended the day allowing just four hits to go with the two runs and 15 strike outs.

Kevin Correia was a big reason why the Pirates held the lead for a majority of the afternoon, as he allowed just one run on a Jhonny Peralta home run through his first six innings. The wheels would come off in the seventh, as the Tigers rallied for three runs off of Correia and reliever Tony Watson.

The Pirates did get an opportunity to come back late as Barajas hit a sac fly to bring home Josh Harrison to cut the score to 4-3, however it was not enough.

The Pirates return to action on Monday back home in Pittsburgh as they welcome the New York Mets to PNC Park.
