Day three of the French Open is well underway at Roland Garros. First round action is still underway on the men's side of the tournament. No. 2 ranked men's player Rafael Nadal won his first round match on Tuesday in straight sets over Italian Simone Bolelli, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1. Other top ranked men's tennis players that won on Tuesday include No. 6 David Ferrer, No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic, No. 12 Nicolas Almagro, No. 17 Richard Gasquet, No. 29 Julien Benneteau, and No. 32 Florian Meyer.
No. 16 ranked Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov dropped a five-set match to fellow countryman Sergiy Stakhovsky, 6-7 (7-4), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-3. Other ranked players in action right now include No. 4 Andy Murray, who took his first two sets against Tatsuma Ito, 6-1, 7-5. No. 13 Argentinian Juan Monaco is currently in the fourth set against Frenchman Guillaume Rufin. Monaco currently leads two sets to one, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, but is currently trailing Rufin in the fourth set, 4-5.
On the Woman's side of first round action, No. 2 ranked Maria Sharapova was about as dominant as possible, defeating Romanian Alexandra Cadantu, 6-0, 6-0. Other ranked winners include No. 4 Petra Kvitova, No. 14 Francesca Schiavone No. 16 Maria Kirilenko, No. 22 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, No. 23 Kaia Kanepy and No. 25 Julia Goerges.
No. 5 ranked Serena Williams' first round match is currently in progress against Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano. Williams won the first set 6-4 and is currently tied to Razzano in the second set at three games a piece.
No. 9 ranked Caroline Wozniacki and No. 28 Shuai Peng both have matches scheduled for Wednesday. Peng's match is currently delayed but should be starting momentarily.
