2012 U.S. Open Leaderboard: Tiger Woods Within Striking Distance, Phil Mickelson And Bubba Watson Struggling

The 2012 U.S. Open from the Olympic Club in San Francisco is living up to the expectation that it will be a hard course to play this weekend. Out of the 78 golfers that have teed it off in the first round so far, only eight golfers have scores below par.

One of the eight is Tiger Woods at two under through 15 holes. After scoring a bogey on 14, starting on the back nine, Woods has birdied 17, four and five to put him one stroke back of leader Michael Thompson.

His two partners in the marquee group, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson, have not fared nearly as well. Mickelson is currently six over through 15 holes. He bogeyed the first three holes on the back nine. After earning one stroke back with a birdie on 13, Mickelson has bogeyed 14, 16, four and five.

Watson is in just as bad a shape. After scoring a birdie on 17 to pull his score back to three over, Watson double bogeyed 18 and bogeyed two and three to put him at seven over after 15 holes completed.
