French Open Results: Top Seeds Novak Djokovic, Victoria Azarenka Advance On Friday

Friday play at the 2012 French Open saw the top seeds on both the men's and women's side of the draw advance easily, with Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka winning their matches rather convincingly.

Djokovic extended his 24-match Grand Slam winning streak to 24 games with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 beatdown of France's Nicolas Devilder. Azarenka took down Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak 6-4, 6-4 in a meeting of former junior rivals.

In other Friday action on the men's side of the draw, 2009 French Open champion Roger Federer needed four sets to defeat Nicolas Mahut of France, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. With the victory, Federer improved his record number of Grand Slam match wins to 235. The lone upset of the day in the men's draw saw No. 22 Andreas Seppi beat No. 14 Fernando Verdasco in five sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

The women's side of the tournament saw No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova easily dispatch Ayumi Morita of Japan 6-1, 6-1 on Friday. No. 13 seed Ana Ivanovic fell 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 to Italian Sara Errani. Ivanovic committed 40 unforced errors to just 18 for Errani.
