Brian Baker was pretty much an unknown in the world of tennis a year ago, and Andy Roddick will go down as one of the best American tennis players ever. But their roles were reversed at Wimbledon on Saturday as Baker advanced to the round of 16 while Andy Roddick goes home.
Baker eliminated France's Benoit Paire 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, while Roddick fell to the fifth ranked player in the word, Spain's David Ferrer 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Baker will move on to face Philipp Kohlschreiber while Roddick will travel back to Atlanta in preparation for the 2012 Summer Olympics which will ironically, land him right back at the All England Club.
Brian Baker, who is now ranked 78th in the world will now be an automatic qualifier for the 2012 U.S. Open in New York.
