2012 Belmont Stakes: Union Rags Takes Home The Crown

After I'll Have Another was pulled from the Belmont with a leg injury and forced to retire, the field was wide open for any horse to win. Not even considered the favorite, Union Rags was able to pull off a thrilling come from behind victory to win the 144th running of the Belmont.

Paynter jumped out to an early lead and led for most of the race while Union Rags stayed in the middle of the pack. But in the last 300 yards or so, the horse made his move, staying alongside the inside rail to overtake Paynter and win the race.

The official results are as follows:

Win - Union Rags (6/1)

Place - Paynter (8/1)

Show - Atigun (30/1)
