Cassidy Krug is one of several Western Pennsylvania natives representing Team USA in the 2012 London Summer Olympics, which will get underway this week with the Opening Ceremonies. The Coraopolis native went on to Stanford where she was an All-American. Now she's headed to London and is definitely a threat to win a medal, but she's also taking her Stanford coach Rick Schavone, who's fulfilling a lifelong dream by making the Olympics as a coach. Krug recently talked about how instrumental her coach has been in her career development, via Marc Emmons of the San Jose Mercury News:

"He knows exactly what he's looking at," said Krug, 26, a Stanford graduate who has trained with Schavone for nine years. "It's like he can see force or something. He knows what we need to do to be better. It's kind of an instinctual thing."

"He is the best coach in the country," Krug said. "He knows what's going to make the dive easier, what makes it spin faster, makes the dive cleaner. Beyond that, he's an amazing man."

Krug has a definite shot to bring home a medal and she starts her push for gold in the 3-meter springboard competition in London on August 3 with the preliminary round. The semifinals will be the following day on August 4, with the finals and medals being handed out on Sunday August 5.
