Olympic volleyball play began on Saturday in London, and in the indoor event, the United States women defeated the Korean women's volleyball team by a final score of 3-1 the preliminary round of Group B.
In the first set, the U.S. won 25-19, in the second set, 25-17 and the fourth set, 25-21. Korea took the third set in the match with a score of 25-20.
Christa Harmotto, a native of Hopewell Township, Pa. who also played her college volleyball at Penn State, helped the Americans get the win with her contributions, as she recorded eight spikes, 12 blocks, three kills and five digs in the match while also scoring a service ace.
The United States will now move on to face Brazil on Monday in their second Group B preliminary match.
