2012 London Olympics: Local Athletes Ready To Shine On 3rd Day Of Competition

On the 2012 London Olympics' third official day of competition, Pittsburgh-area athletes will once again be ready to compete and help the United States move into position to overtake China, which is currently in the lead in the overall medal count.

Pittsburgh-born Allison Schmitt will compete in the fifth heat of the day in the women's 200-meter freestyle. Schmitt has already taken home a silver medal while competing in the women's 400-meter freestyle event on Sunday. Christa Harmotto of Hopewell Township, who also attended Penn State, will join her U.S. Women's volleyball teammates as they take on Brazil in the second match of their Group B preliminaries.

Harmotto helped the United States to a victory over Korea in the opening round on Saturday.
