In a rematch of their 2008 gold medal game at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the United States women's volleyball team once again failed in their bid to win the first ever gold medal in the sport as they fell to Brazil on Saturday in the Olympic final, ironically, by the same score as the 2008 final, 3-1.
The U.S. took the first set 25-11 but the Brazillians turned things around in the remaining three sets in dominating fashion, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-17.
Brazil dominated the game scoring 61 of their 86 total points in the match on spikes compared to the United States scoring 46 of their 79 points on spikes.
Hopewell, Pa. Township and Penn State alum, Christa Harmotto, scored four points in the game (three spikes, one block).
