The 2012 London Olympic games came to an official end on Sunday. After two weeks of grueling competition, the United States emerged atop the leaderboard of overall medal winners. After being in a tight race with China for much of the games, the U.S. won 104 total medals (46 gold, 29 silver, 29 bronze) to China's 87.
Here are a few local athletes that won medals in London and will be bringing their hardware back home to Pittsburgh:
Gold - Allison Schmitt (Swimming)
Silver - Christina Harmotto (Volleyball)
Bronze - Coleman Scott (Wrestling)
Schmitt, a Pittsburgh native who swam collegiately at Georgia, will be bringing the most medals back as she won gold in the women's 200-meter freestyle and women's 4x200m relay, silver in the women's 400-meter freestyle and bronze in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay.
